Meet Efficient Electrician Steven

Efficient AC, Electric & Plumbing electrician Steven Schexnayder standing in front of his work truck.

Where are you from originally?
Crowley, Louisiana

What part of Austin do you live in?
Georgetown, TX

If you’re not from Austin, what brought you here?
Friends

How long have you been working in the in the electrical industry?
I’ve been an electrician since 2006.

What got you into electrical work?
My friend’s dad owned an electrical company in Lafayette, LA, and he invited me to go work for them.

What is your approach to customer service?
I put myself in the customer’s shoes. I think of how it would make me feel if a stranger came into my home to do work, and I act accordingly to make the customer as comfortable as possible and get out of their way as quickly as possible.

What do you like about working at Efficient?
It really is a large family. The owner bakes a cake almost every day for someone’s birthday. They go out of their way to make you feel appreciated. I also get to work along side some of the best tradesmen I’ve ever met.

What do you like most about being an electrician?
I’m always coming across something new. New technology, new problems to solve.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I come from a family of musicians, so I enjoy writing and recording songs.

Why should someone consider a career as an electrician/in the trades?
It’s hard work from the first year to fourth, but it pays off in the long run — and experience in the trade spills over into other opportunities.

Favorite travel spot?
Crowley, LA to see my parents.

How do you define success?
Success doesn’t have any monetary value to me. They say find a job you love, and you won’t work a day in your life. I have that, and that’s success to me. It’s very rare.

Favorite meal?
Rice and gravy (it’s a Louisiana thing).

What is the one non-living thing you would save from your house in the event of an emergency?
My bass guitar. I’ve had it for over 15 years, and it has emotional value.

Top life highlights?
Seeing my 2 favorite bands live: Pedro the Lion and Five Iron Frenzy.

Greatest accomplishment?
Leaving Crowley, LA. It’s a small town, and I love to visit, but it’s very easy to get stuck there. I can’t imagine never meeting the people I’ve met in Texas.

What is on your bucket list?
A trip on SpaceX.
