What Makes AC Service in Austin Different
Austin's climate is humid subtropical with wide variations in humidity and moderate variations in temperature — typically mild to very hot. Couple this with reasonable rainfall, and Austin has terrific potential for growth and pollen, particularly in spring and fall. Cedar, oak and ragweed allergies are seasonal, and mold is the anytime frosting on the cake.
Older properties in Tarrytown, Pemberton, Hyde Park and other central neighborhoods still have many old, leaky homes susceptible to infiltration from these pollens. Sound ductwork, along with air treatment and filtration, are very useful in making these properties tolerable.
Newer properties in Westlake, Travis Country, River Place and others — those with foam insulation in particular — have challenges with humidity and hence mold growth. For these, controlling humidity through the main HVAC system or with supporting dehumidifiers is a major consideration.
Stories from the Field
A homeowner in the Spicewood at Balcones Villages neighborhood in Northwest Austin had been told by contractors that she needed all of her equipment replaced. After a thorough walkthrough and assessment, our AC service manager recommended replacing only the one system she actually used daily. The upstairs unit served only a guest bedroom. She saved significantly and has since referred several neighbors to us. That's the kind of honest assessment we bring to every job.
Air Conditioning Contractor FAQs
The decision comes down to the equipment's condition and your situation as a homeowner — similar to deciding whether to repair or replace a car.
As a general rule, the practical economic life of a residential system is 15 years. If your system is under 10 years old and has been maintained, repair is usually the right first call. For major failures — compressor, coil, refrigerant circuit — understanding both repair and replacement costs helps make the decision.
Between 10 and 15 years, replacement should take priority for those major repairs. Putting a large portion of replacement cost into an aging system is like putting a new engine in an old, tired car. Something else will likely break soon. Smaller repairs — capacitors, motors, starters — are still reasonable investments even in older systems.
If you're planning to sell within a year or two, repair is usually the better financial bet. If you're staying, a new system means better comfort, efficiency, humidity management and warranties up to 10 years on parts and labor.
We'll always give you an honest recommendation — not the one that's better for our bottom line.
Yes. We're a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer. We also service Trane, Lennox, Rheem, Goodman, York, Daikin, Mitsubishi and every other major brand. Our air conditioning contractors are trained to work on all brands and system types, from standard split systems to mini-splits, heat pumps, rooftop units and more.
Carrier — along with sister brands Bryant and Payne — offers a wide product line, strong warranties, high efficiencies and long-term parts support. Trane and its sister brand American Standard are also excellent choices. Like cars, there are several good options and a few less-than-good ones. We'll help you find the right fit for your property.
