Where are you from originally? Born in Cleveland, Texas and grew up in Zwolle, Louisiana.
Tell us a little about your family. Married since 1972. I have 2 daughters, 2 granddaughters and 4 grandsons.
What did you do before you got into the construction industry? US Air Force 1970-1974
What motivated you to pursue a career in the construction industry? Had a wife and a little girl to support — needed a job.
When did you start working in the construction industry? September 1974. Moved from Louisiana to Houston. A friend got me an interview with a mechanical contractor, and I started working in the fabrication shop for $2/hour.
What brought you to Austin? The company I was with in Houston opened a branch in Austin in 1983.
How long have you been at Efficient? Since 1991.
What do you like about working at Efficient? Great people to work with; flexibility to make my own schedule.
What is your approach to customer service? Show them the same courtesy and respect that you would want to receive when buying something.
What do you like most about being a mechanical estimator? I enjoy seeing something new that will be built before the public sees it. It’s a great mental exercise dealing with lots of numbers and trying to hit the fine line of being low enough to get the job and not lose money on it.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working? Family time, fishing and hunting.
Why should someone consider a career in the trades? Being a craftsman in the construction industry will always be in high demand.

How do you define success? Being happy at what you do, making enough for a comfortable living and staying involved with family.
Top life highlights? The day I got married, the birth of our 2 daughters, the birth of our 6 grandkids — getting old.
What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? Trust funds for my family.
When are you happiest? Every day that I know my family is safe and happy — and when I’m fishing!
