Minisplit Repair in Austin

There is a reason you chose a minisplit system – whether it’s for an extra room, individual climate control, a conditioned garage or a small dwelling. Minisplit installation is often the simplest and least expensive upfront solution for these specific needs. However, like any HVAC system, minisplits may occasionally require repairs.

The most obvious sign you need a minisplit repair is a noticeable reduction or complete loss of heating or cooling ability. The problem may stem from something as simple as a blocked condensate drain line or a dirty outdoor unit. Whether the cause is straightforward or more complex, these issues signal you likely need professional minisplit repair services.

We can repair, maintain and install both ducted and ductless minisplits, but ductless minisplits are far more common.

Common Minisplit Repairs

With proper installation and basic maintenance, a minisplit will have minimal issues and can run 10-15 years. Operating conditions play a large part in their lifespan and operating cost, with dirt being the enemy. The most frequent issues are related to:

  • Condensate (water) drainage – As in a conventional HVAC unit, drain lines can get clogged – resulting in poor or no performance. Simply clearing the drain cures this. Most minisplit installations require the use of an on-board or auxiliary drain pump. If so, this is normally the least reliable part of the system and requires replacement every few years. If you have the option to install your minisplit with a drain path using only gravity, do it!
  • Dirty condenser – Minisplit performance will also degrade with a dirty condenser. Annual cleaning will keep the unit running well.
  • Batteries – Most units operate by remote control, and occasional battery replacement is required. Check the battery indicator on the remote control if it stops working or becomes sluggish.

These are all small problems. Units can have larger problems, namely motor failures and coil leaks, but with one exception these are not frequent. The exception is that flat-ducted indoor units of all brands are prone to coil leaks, requiring coil replacement.

Our Minisplit Repair Process

Our technicians come prepared with fully stocked trucks, allowing them to complete most repairs on the spot with your approval. Minisplit Repair Costs

As with any air conditioner or machine, installation quality, use, and maintenance drive operating and repair costs. Minisplit repair costs are similar to repairs for conventional HVAC systems. The same technicians, skills, repair part types and times are required for tasks. With the exception of full indoor coil replacements, minisplit repairs are generally not frequent or expensive.

At Efficient, we use flat rates for repairs to ensure fair, consistent pricing. With our maintenance plan, you’ll get a 10% discount on your minisplit repair and any other AC, electrical and plumbing repairs we perform for you.

Differences in Minisplit Repairs Across Brands

Major brands (Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, Carrier) are similar in quality and performance. Even lesser known brands function; however, getting repair parts and support for them can be more challenging. At Efficient, we repair all brands of ducted and ductless minisplits.
