Dirty air filters are a leading cause of air conditioner performance problems, but are one of the easiest to fix. These problems include higher humidity, poor airflow, condensation in the wrong areas, higher energy consumption and lower equipment service life. Every space has its own unique needs, so the frequency of filter changes is not equal for all, nor is the task of replacing or cleaning filters. Basic 1” thick filters in an active environment may need monthly changes, while higher performing filters with more surface area can reasonably last six months or more. There are many different filtration technologies, all with different service requirements, so above all it is best to know and follow manufacturer cleaning and replacement instructions. This with a realistic assessment of your environment and input from your service provider will improve comfort and save money.
