When it’s time to replace your HVAC unit, there are a few questions you may be asking yourself. Should I go for a high efficiency air conditioner, or will any one do? Aren’t these units just a box inside, a box outside and a thermostat? Why buy more than the least expensive HVAC unit? Wasn’t the same unit furnished by the home builder good enough? Is there a strategy to all this?
Understanding the benefits of Carrier air conditioner brand’s Greenspeed line is a start to answering these questions, whether you choose the top of the line or not. Your own purposes, needs and wants are important to consider, particularly if the unit is going into your own home.
The Greenspeed line is Carrier’s highest performing, highest investment and most high efficiency air conditioner series. Here are the main benefits it offers:
Variable Capacity and Operation
The Greenspeed line has the ability to scale from approximately 25% of max to max capacity, thereby allowing the HVAC system to match exactly the needed climate changes, even in the spring and fall.
The Greenspeed line produces the best SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) in Carrier’s line and in the industry. However, SEER is an efficiency measurement based on peak capacity operation, so it only tells part of the story. Through variable capacity, the unit is able to run at much lower than peak electrical draws, and the operational savings become even greater.
Indoor and outdoor units run virtually silent. Again, couple this with variable capacity and variable fans (slower running), and the indoor experience is typically noiseless. The air feels great, but nothing is heard.
Without the added space and expense of a dedicated dehumidifier, the Greenspeed line has the ability to bring humidity under partial or full control, depending on sizing. In most cases, setting the humidity to 50% will result in operation close to this across the entire year.
The Infinity thermostats are user friendly, feature packed, WiFi enabled, very configurable and aesthetically pleasing. The controls allow management of other devices, now and in the future, such as humidifiers and dehumidifiers. The Carrier Infinity Zone System, compatible with these, offers zoning abilities not available in the past.
Weighing Your Replacement Options
Typical builder grade units will have few, if any, of these benefits. They offer the builder an attractive price point attached to a brand name. Keep in mind that most builders do not live in the homes they sell, so cost is everything to them. It’s also important to remember that simply using Greenspeed components does not make a whole Greenspeed system. The installing contractor should use all the Greenspeed system components together, as intended by Carrier.
When installed correctly, these systems deliver a level of satisfaction that measures up to the additional cost, along with lower electric bills to help pay for the added expense. Our experience with most customers is that once they buy one, they do not go back.

“From start to finish, Efficient was professional and straightforward. We got bids from eight different AC companies. There were no salesman shenanigans from Efficient. They were all thoughtful about our special requests, mindful of leaving the place cleaner than they found it, and enthusiastic about any follow-up needs. My husband and I are picky picky picky. And we give Efficient a ringing five-star thank you!”
“Knowledgeable with great follow through. Just replaced 2 AC units. Thanks to all. I love my new Carrier Infinity systems!”
“MORE than 5 STARS are needed for Efficient AC. The finished work was perfect! That, along with three spanking new, well-priced Carriers within two days, is 5-star service, for sure. But wait, there’s more! Besides having quoted me a nicely competitive price, without a single penny added for extras, Efficient AC took it upon themselves to make sure I met the requirements for a rebate program from my power company (PEC), ultimately benefitting me with a BONUS of $900. I have good cause to state that Efficient AC has earned my absolute trust — ALL STARS!”
